At the beginning of the year, in Believe The Hype speaking about the convergence of the virtual world paradigm and mobile devices I claimed that one key reason the iPhone was a highly disruptive product offering was because it runs a version of the Mac operating system OS/X. Today, in anticipation of an announcement tomorrow of an OS/X based line of iPods, CNET says:
… a Mac OS X-based iPod could be a compelling device as the industry and its customers try to figure out how mobile computers should evolve.
The article also quotes Apple Insider saying
Internally, Apple is much further along, according to sources, who say the company will again tap an embedded version of the Mac OS to form the foundation of yet another business segment and digital device family in 2008.
